A stomach virus is rarely serious and will usually go away on it's own within 3 to 10 days.

Before going to the doctor for the stomach virus you should do self treatment at home such as eating bland foods, getting plenty of rest and staying hydrated with plenty of fluids such as water or Apple Juice, Orange Juice or any other natural juices that contain vitamins.

Avoid eating spicy or dairy foods and if symptoms don't improve within 10 days then you may want to see a doctor about the stomach virus.

However if you do want to go ahead and see your doctor about the stomach virus the most the doctor can do is prescribe you some medicine such as promethazine, prochlorperazine, metoclopramide, or ondansetron that can help stop the nausea and vomiting but not the actual stomach virus.

You can also buy some over the counter antidiarrheal or other nausea medicine to help but there's nothing you can really do to recover from the stomach flu much sooner other than get plenty of rest, eat bland foods and stay hydrated and let the stomach flu run it's course.

The stomach flu should be gone in 3 to 10 days but most stomach viruses go away within 3 days but the more severe stomach viruses can last up to 10 days.
