If a rat bites you the rat bite can cause joint and muscle pain and swollen lymph nodes as well as bleeding where you were bitten.

Not only that but if a rat bites you the rat bite can cause rat bite fever which is a bacterial disease that spreads through infected rats and other rodents through a bite or a scratch.

Symptoms of rat bite fever include fever, skin rash, and headache as well as possible joint and muscle pain and or swollen lymph nodes.

Even if the rat bite seems minor, it's always best to see a doctor as soon as possible after the rat bite.

Bites from rats are also prone to turning into potentially serious infections.

You should also get a tetanus shot, especially if it's been more than five years since your last one (or you don't remember the date of your last tetanus shot).

If the rat bite causes a deep puncture or the skin is badly torn and bleeding, apply direct pressure to stop the bleeding and get medical attention right away.

If you develop a fever or other signs of infection  swelling, redness, pain, a bad smell or fluid draining from the area see a physician immediately.
