If you're under the age of 18 and your parents are your legal guardians and are responsible for you then your parents can put you in a psych ward.
If your parents believe that you're gonna harm yourself and deem it necessary that you require psychiatric help then they can have you involuntarily committed.
The younger you are the easier it gets to get you admitted into a psych ward against your will.
A judge can also order you to be admitted to a psych ward too.
In Florida anyone can get you admitted to a psych ward if they call the police and say you are a danger to yourself and then the police come and visit you.
The police would then talk with you and if the police determine that you should be admitted to a psych ward they can legally baker act you.
When the police baker act you then they don't need a judge and can simply take you into their custody and deliver you to a psych ward against your will.
If you're an adult child then your parents cannot force you into a psych ward but a judge still can.
But if you're a minor or under 18 then your parents can legally force you into a psych ward.
In most states, an involuntary psychiatric commitment cannot extend beyond 72 hours without a formal hearing.
This 3-day period allows patients to receive basic medical treatment, recover from psychotic episodes and hopefully understand the need for further help.
