It depends on what kind of storm you're planning on driving in but in most cases it's safe to drive in the storm if you need to.
I've driven in thunderstorms and wind storms before and haven't gotten hurt but if there's a tornado forecast in the area then don't drive in a tornado unless you have no other choice.
If the wind is blowing hard drive slower and if it's raining drive slower to avoid hydroplaning.
If the wind gets too strong or the rain starts coming down too hard making it hard to see then try to pull over to the side of the road or into a parking lot to wait out the storm.
