One of your side can be hurting due to muscle strain, back problems, herniated disk, pinched nerve, fractured spine, muscle spasms, arthritis, kidney infections, urinary tract infections, appendicitis, ureteral stones or even gas pains.

If the side pain is not serious and not caused by something such as appendicitis you can most often get rid of your side pains by taking some aspirin or ibuprofen or by applying some heat such as with a heating pad or hot water bottle or by soaking in a warm bath.

A heating pad can help relax the muscles and ease the side pain and even when you have trapped gas in your side causing the pain the heating pad can help with releasing of the gas.

Even massaging the side where the pain is at can help to get rid of the side pains.

You should be worried about side pain if the side pain lasts longer than a few hours, gets worse or is accompanied by pain in the chest, jaw, neck, arm etc or you have pressure in your chest or severe abdominal pain or a fever, nausea or vomiting.

A side ache should last for only a few minutes to a few hours but if the side ache continues longer than a few hours or get worse it could be something as serious as a hernia or even appendicitis.

If the side ache is a result of an injury the ache may last for a few days.

Several things would cause a right side ache including appendicitis, gas pain etc.

The causes of pain and aches in your right side can be anything from indigestion, IBS, reproductive system issues, kidney problems, gas, hernia and even appendicitis.

Some causes of pain in the right side may not be serious and may go away on it's own and other cases such as appendicitis or kidney issues or a hernia require medical attention.

Appendicitis is an emergency and requires prompt medical attention because a burst appendix can be fatal.

If the right side pain last a week or longer or if your pain worsens over a day or two and is accompanied by nausea and vomiting, you should see a doctor or go to the ER.

The location of your pain may signal what's causing it and what level of treatment you need.

Pain in the lower right side of the abdomen, for example, may be appendicitis, which requires immediate medical treatment.

Appendicitis is a serious condition and begins with pain near your belly button and then the pain moves to the right side.

The pain with appendicitis is also often accompanied by poor appetite, chills, fever, nausea and vomiting.

The symptoms of appendicitis include.

Loss of appetite.
Nausea and vomiting.
Pain which gets worse when walking, coughing or making jarring movements.
Sudden pain which begins around your belly button and often then shifts to the lower right belly.
And sudden pain which begins on the right side of your lower belly.

Appendicitis is a medical emergency and condition that occurs when your appendix becomes inflamed and filled with pus.

Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix.

Your appendix is a finger-shaped pouch that sticks out from your colon on the lower right side of your belly, also called the abdomen.
