The air when you breathe in goes to and through your lungs.

And when you breathe in your lungs contract to pull the rib cage both upward and outward when you inhale.

As your lungs expand the air is sucked in through the nose and mouth and the air then travels down the trachea, or windpipe and into the lungs.

After the air passes through the bronchial tubes the air then travels to your alveoli or air sacs.

Lungs can remove dust and they do so by first having the body start coughing to expel the dust.

Your lungs have a defense mechanism to protect the lungs from dust particles by removing them through coughing.

When you breathe in some dust you'll start coughing which is the body's way of removing the dust although small amounts of dust can remain in the lungs for awhile and cause inflammation of the lungs.
