Insurance does not pay for a hot tub if you have arthritis although insurance may pay for hot tub therapy.

Even if the hot tub is prescribed for arthritis or other conditions, the insurance doesn't generally cover the cost of or pay for a hot tub.

Some health insurance plants may cover hot tub therapy if it's prescribed as being medically necessary for a certain condition, like post surgical recovery, fibromyalgia and arthritis.

If your doctor does prescribe hot tub therapy, you will often need to provide any supporting documentation, including the prescription for the hot tub therapy and even possible medical records to support the claim.

Many health insurance plans and policies exclude hot tubs or limit the coverage to specific types such as infrared or magnetic therapy models.

If your health insurance plan allows, you may be able to use Health Savings Account or a Flexible Spending Account if you have one of these for the funds for a hot tub or hot tub expenses if it's been prescribed for a medical condition.

In some cases you may be able to save on the taxes or get a discount on the hot tub if you need it medically and you have a doctors prescription and note saying you need the hot tub.
