A dripping nose in the elderly is often caused by changes in the nasal passages like drying and thinning of nasal tissues which make them more prone to runny noses, dripping noses and sneezing.

Other causes of a dripping or runny nose in the elderly are mold, dust mites, pollen, pet dander and even cockroaches.

The elderly person may even have an allergic reaction or a non allergic rhinitis condition which can cause a runny nose or post nasal drainage.

To stop runny noses you can use some nasal spray, saline solution, Neti Pot, taking a Hot Shower, facial steam, humidifier, drinking hot teas, drinking more water and using a warm compress.

The best medicine to dry up a runny nose is Claritin, Benadryl and Zyrtec.

A runny nose is mucus that runs out of the nose.

Several things can cause a runny nose are a cold, dry air, allergies or a common cold and even a sinus infection.
