The pink mold in your fridge is a mold caused by Serratia marcescens.
Serratia marcescens is a bacteria that produces a reddish-pink pigment.
The serratia marcescens bacteria is not always dangerous or harmful although it can cause health issues in people such as urinary tract infections, intestinal issues and rarely pneumonia.
It's important to clean the pink mold out of your fridge and discard any food that has the serratia marcescens mold on it as well.
You can clean the pink mold out of your fridge by first removing all of the food and then diluting some bleach down in a spray bottle or even garden sprayer and add half water and half bleach and then spray the inside of the fridge down with the mixture.
Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then wipe the pink mold out of the fridge and rinse it clearly.
If possible take the fridge outside and power wash the fridge out to give it a really good deep clean.
Serratia marcescens is not a true mold and is actually a bacteria which thrives in damp and warm environments and is commonly found in several places including animal feces, human feces, soil, water and dust.
The pink mold can also grow in tile floors, pet water dishes, shower and tub surfaces, toilet bowls and even shower walls.
