Your child is verbally gifted if your child demonstrates an unusually high level of ability across diverse areas of verbal learning, the child performs far better than their same age peers when learning spelling, reading, grammar, creative writing and when learning other languages.
The signs of an intelligent child are they have the following.
Intense need for mental stimulation and engagement.
Ability to learn new topics quickly.
Ability to process new and complex information rapidly.
Desire to explore specific topics in great depth.
Insatiable curiosity, often demonstrated by many questions.
They are curious and ask a lot of questions.
They take their own approach to assignments.
They have a large vocabulary and prefer adult conversation.
They have original ideas.
They are cognitively advanced and able to self-teach new skills.
They are sensitive to their environment.
A child should be able to count to 10 by age 2 years old although every child is different but most toddlers or children count to 10 by the time they are 2 years of age.
By 2 years of age most toddlers or children are usually repeating them mostly by memory and have yet to understand what they actually mean.
The age that a child should be able to say their ABC's is by the age of three.
Most children should be able to recite the alphabet by age 4 although some children may learn by age 2 or before 3 years old and some may not be able to recite their ABC's until age 4 or 5.
All children are different and learn at different levels.
Children will learn to recipe the alphabet through repetition and it's a good idea to start teaching your child the alphabet early on before Kindergarten.
Most children begin recognizing some letters between the ages of 2 and 3 and can identify most letters between 4 and 5.
This means that you can start teaching your child the alphabet when they're around 2 – but don't expect full mastery for some time.
By the time children are older (4 years old and up), 60 percent know more than half of the uppercase letters and five to 10 lowercase ones.
About 30 percent can recognize all letters, both upper and lower.
By age 3 Kids may recognize about half the letters in the alphabet and start to connect letters to their sounds.
(Like s makes the /s/ sound.) By age 4: Kids often know all the letters of the alphabet and their correct order.
By kindergarten most kids can match each letter to the sound it makes.
The average age of reading fluency isn't an age at all but a range.
By around grades 2 to 3, most children are beginning to read independently and acquiring fluency.
