Most 8 year olds are pretty mature although some 8 year olds may be less mature than others.
An 8 year old is in their middle childhood and are often demonstrating developing cognitive, social as well as emotional skills.
However 8 year olds still require some guidance as well as support, with focus on play, learning and forming friendships.
8 year olds also start to use their logic and reason in new ways are also becoming better at focusing on multiple pars of a problem at once and they have the ability and desire to do things themselves and solve problems on their own.
8 year olds also can understand concepts of time, including past, present and future time and can also understand concepts including months, weeks and days and they can also count by twos and fives and can also often do single digit addition and subtraction and are also often skilled or becoming pretty skilled in writing, reading and also using oral language.
My 8 year old son is very mature and is mature enough that I trust to leave him at home alone by himself for a couple of hours while I'm away at work.
He even cooks for himself and is very careful although some 8 year olds may not be trusted to be home alone or be able to cook safely but it all depends on the individual 8 year old or child on how mature they are.
8 year olds are tweens as they are between being a child and a teenager.
8 year olds are also considered to be a big kid and not a little kid anymore.
8 years old is a big kid and not really a little kid anymore.
I would define that an little kid is from 4 to 7 years old and would find an 8 year old to be a big kid.
Although an 8 year old being considered a big kid can be subjective as they are firmly in their middle childhood and are transitioning from early childhood or pre adolescence and are also no longer considered a toddler.
When I was 8 I considered myself a big kid and I consider my 8 year old son a big kid as well.
8 years old is not a youth and instead an 8 year old is considered a child.
A youth is defined as being between the ages of 15 to 24 years in some states.
However many people only find someone a youth from 15 to 18.
I personally find that a child is someone from 4 to 13.
Once the age starts mentioning teen in it I would say that the person is not a teen and no longer a child but the teen is also considered a youth.
However for statistical purposes the United Nations defines "youth" as those that are between the ages of 15 to 24 years of age.
Children are often considered to be those under the age of 14 and a toddler is often from 1 to 3 years old.
And tweens are kids between the ages of 8 to 12 years old because they are in between being children and teenagers.
Middle childhoods is when a child is 6 to 8 years old.
And adolescence is when a child is between the ages of 10 years old to 19 years old.
Puberty also often starts as early as age 8 for girls and puberty often starts as early as age 9 for boys.
At age 7 to 8 some kids feel torn between the little kid and big worlds.
