Foods themselves don't actually cause cysts although certain foods such as processed foods and sugary foods and drinks can contribute to an increase risk of cyst development.

Processed foods that are high in unhealthy fats, sugar and sodium can promote and increase inflammation and hormonal imbalances and lead to cyst formation.

And sugary drinks and sugary foods can increase your insulin levels due to the excess sugar and lead to hormonal imbalances and formation of cysts.

Stress can also be a contributing factor for cysts development but stress itself cannot directly cause cysts although chronic stress can promote cyst formation.

Stress can lead to increased inflammation which can weaken tissue and create pockets in which fluid can accumulate and form cysts.

And stress can also alter your hormone levels, which can increase the risk of certain types of cysts, like ovarian cysts and stress can also weaken and suppress your immune system and make it easier for infections which can cause cysts to develop.

Physical strain and repetitive or intense physical activity can place pressure on certain areas of your body and lead to cysts.

Genetics, trauma and infections can also lead to formation of cysts and most cysts are not harmful and go away, although some cysts can be more serious than others.

Most cysts do go away on their own eventually, especially if the cysts are the noncancerous types of cysts.

Some types of cysts do go away on their own and some cysts may require medical treatment to get them to go away.

The types of cysts that often go away on their own are ovarian cysts, epidermoid cysts and sebaceous cysts.

Many ovarian cysts are benign and non cancerous and often go away over time without any intervention.

Epidermoid cysts are similar to sebaceous cysts although they are caused by a blockage of a skin cell and they will sometimes go away on their own, especially if they happen to be small.

Sebaceous cysts are cysts caused by a blockage of an oil gland and often go away without any treatment.

Some cysts require treatment to get rid of which include infected cysts, cysts that cause discomfort or functional problems and cysts that may be cancerous.

Some types of cysts such as ovarian cysts can be cancerous so it's important to get these types of cysts evaluated by a doctor.

Cysts which are painful, large or cysts that interfere with daily activities may require surgical removal.

And cysts that become infected can cause redness, pain and swelling and require antibiotics to treat.

Smaller cysts are more likely to go away on their own and cysts on the skin or on the ovaries which are not cancerous are also likely to go away on their own without any treatment.

And sebaceous and epidermoid cysts are also likely to go away on their own unlike some other cysts.

I've had a cyst on my wrist and it went away within a few weeks.

If the cyst is an ovary cyst you should have it checked out to be safe and be sure it's not cancerous but in most cases it's nothing to worry about.
