The alternative to normal sinus surgery is a balloon sinuplasty.

Sinuplasty is a minimally invasive alternative to the traditional endoscopic sinus surgery that uses a balloon catheter to open the blocked sinus passages without removing the tissue and in turn leads to a faster recovery time as well as less pain.

Radiofrequency Turbinate Reduction is also another alternative to sinus surgery that reduces the size of your turbinates when they are obstructing the air pathways and is also minimally invasive.

Sinuplasty is often done if you experience sinus infections that last longer than 12 weeks which do not respond well enough to other treatments such as nasal sprays or antibiotics or if you have sinus infections which are recurrent.

Sinuplasty is a procedure that is often done when you have chronic sinus infections that last longer than 12 weeks, have multiple sinus infections such as 4 or more sinus infections within a year which don't respond well to any regular treatments.

Sinuplasty is also done when you have persistent nasal congestion or difficulty breathing through your nose, even with medication.

Or if you have facial pain or pressure around the eyes, cheeks or forehead or you have post nasal drip like excessive mucus draining down the back of the throat.

Or if you have sinus headaches or frequent headaches which can be related to sinus problems or you have chronic bad breath which is related to sinus issues or a persistent cough which can be caused by post nasal drip.

If your symptoms of sinus infections have not responded well to nasal sprays, antibiotics or other treatments then a Sinusplasty is often recommended.

Sinus infections also known as sinusitis is inflammation of the tissue lining the sinuses, which are air filled spaces in the head that are connected to your nasal passages.

Inflammation or swelling of the tissue lining your sinuses is also known as a sinus infection or even rhinosinusitis or sinusitis.

Sinus infections can be caused by viral or bacterial infections, allergies and other irritants.

Symptoms of a sinus infection are facial pain or pressure, nasal congestion, thick nasal discharge and headaches.

There are also two main types of sinus infections which include acute sinusitis which lasts for around 4 weeks and chronic sinusitis which lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Treatment for sinus infections often involves medications and focusing on relieving the symptoms and clearing your sinuses.s

Medications such as saline nasal sprays, nasal corticosteroids and antibiotics if it's a bacterial infection are often used to treat sinus infections.

Sinus infections occur as the result of an inflammatory reaction or an infection from a virus or bacteria or fungus.

Saline nasal sprays, nasal corticosteroids, decongestants, allergy medications and pain relievers can help with relieving a sinus infection.
