Some reasons why you would see a laryngologist are if you have any persistent voice issues, voice problems, swallowing issues, breathing difficulties, or other neck or head conditions which impact your throat or voice.

A laryngologist is also known as an ear, nose and throat doctor which focuses on your larynx which is your voice box and your vocal cords.

Common reasons for seeing a laryngologist are hoarseness, laryngitis, vocal cord issues, difficulty in speaking, breathing issues, swallowing difficulties also known as dysphagia or head and neck conditions, snoring, sleep apnea, ear problems, sinus problems, lump in your throat or neck and sore throat.

Your primary care doctor may refer you to a laryngologist if they suspect that you have a condition that requires specialized care.

If you have a sore throat which does not get better or lasts longer than 2 weeks then you should see an laryngologist.

If you have a lump in your throat or neck then you should also see a laryngologist.

If you have chronic sinus infections or any chronic nasal congestion you should see a laryngologist who can help.

If you have ear problems a laryngologist can treat the ear infections, hearing loss, and other related conditions.

If you have snoring or sleep apnea a laryngologist can help to treat and assess these conditions.

If you have trouble swallowing, the laryngologist can help to identify the cause and recommend proper treatment.

If you have breathing issues such as difficulty breathing, wheezing or a high pitched sound when breathing, a laryngologist can also assess and look for any blockages in your larynx or your trachea.

If you have difficulty in speaking or have any changes in your voice a laryngologist can also help.

If you suspect any vocal cord issues such as vocal cord polyps, nodules, or other problems then the laryngologist can help and recommend treatment.

And if you have laryngitis the laryngologist can diagnose and treat the laryngitis, which is the inflammation of your voice box.
