A neurological problem with the ear is auditory neuropathy as well as vestibular disorders which can cause hearing loss, vertigo and balance problems.

Auditory neuropathy and vestibular disorders effect the nerves that connect your inner ear to your brain itself and disrupt the transmission of sound and balance signals.

Auditory neuropathy is a hearing disorder in which the inner ear detects sound but the nerve impulses which travel from the inner ear to the brain become disrupted.

Symptoms of auditory neuropathy are often mild to severe hearing loss and poor speech perception in which a person has difficulty in understanding speech clearly, even with hearing aids or cochlear implants.

There is no cure for auditory neuropathy and the cause is not known.

Vestibular disorders are conditions which affect your inner ear's ability to control balance which leads to dizziness, vertigo and imbalance.

Common types of vestibular disorders are Labyrinthitis which is inflammation of your labyrinth which is fluid filled channels in your inner ear.

Vestibular Neuritis which is inflammation of your vestibular nerve which is the nerve in your inner ear that sends messages to your brain.

Meniere's Disease which is a disorder of your inner ear that can cause hearing loss, vertigo, tinnitus and a feeling of fullness in your ear.

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo which is a condition where calcium deposits in your inner ear cause vertigo.

And acoustic neuroma which is a benign tumor on the nerve that connects your ear to your brain.

The following is a disorder of the middle ear which include cholesteatoma, chronic otitis media, acute otitis media with effusion, otitis media and Otosclerosis.

The condition Otosclerosis is where the bones in your middle ear harden and cause hearing loss.

Otitis media is a type of infection of your middle ear.

And Cholesteatoma is a growth of skin cells in your middle ear.

The main symptom of a middle ear disorder is hearing loss.

And other symptoms of a middle ear disorder are ear pain and fluid or discharge from the ear.

The most common type of ear infection is otitis media.

Otitis media is caused by swelling and infection of your middle ear and the middle ear is located just behind your eardrum.

An acute ear infection begins over a short period of time and is also painful.

A disorder of the inner ear is called Meniere's disease.

Meniere's disease can cause dizzy spells also known as vertigo and hearing loss.

Most of the time Meniere's disease affects only one ear.

And Meniere's disease can occur at any age.

Patulous Eustachian tube dysfunction is another disorder of the ear and is a disorder of the valve of your Eustachian tube which causes it to remain open.

When the valve remains open the sound can travel from your nasal sinus cavity to your ears and allow you to hear your own voice or your own breathing too loudly or even the sound of your blood pumping.
