When a car is idling the cars battery is charged slowly so yes an idling car will keep a vehicles battery charged although the idling car engine will not fully recharge a dead battery fast.

If you need to get your battery charged back up after jump starting it you need to drive the car around town or at highway speeds to get the battery charged by allowing the alternator to put out more voltage than it would when it was just idling.
