Well water does save money as you have no water bill or even a minimum water bill to pay.

With a water well you do have to pay the cot of electricity to run the well pump to pump the water but the cost to run the water well pump is only around $5.00 to $10.00 per month depending on how often your well pump runs.

With city water you have a monthly water bill and are usually billed $2.00 to $4.00 or more per 1,000 gallons of water and the more water you use the higher your water bill is which can be as high as $70.00 to $100.00 in some cases.

With well water you can pump several thousand gallons of water and still pay less than you would on a city water bill.

It is a good idea to have a well instead of city water as well water is free and free of chemicals and city water is full of chemicals including chlorine which can be harmful to your health.

City water can cost a lot and you have a base fee just for the water to be available but with well water you only pay for the electricity that is used to pump the water.

The maintenance that is required for a well is mainly testing the well annually or every few years or so and sometimes disinfecting the well using chlorine.

However some wells are just fine without annual testing or shocking with chlorine.

I do very little maintenance on my water well and it has been just fine for several years.

The cost to run a well pump monthly is between $5.00 to $10.00 per month.

When I run my well pump more in the summer for the kids to play in the sprinklers, watering grass, gardens etc my electric bill usually goes up to $10.00 at most.

If I run the well pump less then my bill may go up to $5.00 at most and sometimes less.

Running a well pump monthly for water costs some money but it's way cheaper than paying a water bill to the city.

I used to pay $100.00 per month on water bills in the city but now my bill for water which is just the electric costs is only at most $10.00 per month which is a huge savings.

It is OK to run a well pump 24 hours if it's a submersible well pump although above ground well pumps could burn out if they run longer than a few hours at a time.

Still even with a submersible well pump it's best to allow the well pump rest after around 2 to 4 hours of run time but they can run continuously if needed.

A well cannot run without electricity if you have an electric water pump.

Hand well pumps can operate without electricity but electric well pumps need electricity to operate although you can use solar power or even use a portable generator or other back up generator to power the well pump.

To get water from a well when the power goes out you can use a portable generator to power the well pump or in some cases you can install a hand pump to get some water from your well if it's not too deep.

To get water out of your well without electricity you can use a portable generator to power the well pump or use a hand pump on the well if the well water is close enough to the surface.

In some cases a hand pump won't be able to pump water from a well if it's too deep and instead you'll need a submersible well pump with electricity.

A solar well pump is also available as well but an electric well pump powered off a generator is better.

You can shower during a power outage if you have a well as long as you have a backup source to power your well pump.

A backup source to power the well pump would be a generator to run the well pump or a large enough solar system.

Your well pressure tank will provide some water and may or may not be enough for at least one shower depending on the well pressure tank size.

The amount of gallons of water that is good for a well is between 5 gallons per minute to 8 to 10 gallons per minute.

Some wells produce more and some less but if your well is producing at least 5 gallons per minute then it's a good yielding well.

If the water well is producing less than 5 gallons per minute then it's usually a low producing well.

A water well should last for 30 years to 40 years or even longer.

My water well is currently 50 years old and has had no issues and it will likely last another 50 years or more.

Some wells may dry up sooner and then you may need the well drilled deeper or you may need a new water well constructed.

However you should get at least 30 years or longer out of a good water well.

It's usually the water well pump that goes bad before the well does.

I replaced my submersible well pump that was 30 years old because the water pressure dropped and I expect the new submersible well pump to last 15 to 20 years at least or it may last longer.

You can shower with well water for as long as you normally would shower with other water sources.

As long as your water well is not going dry and is replenishing at the proper rate you can shower as you normally would.

However if your well is not producing properly or is at risk of going dry then you should shower a few minutes or so less than your normally would.

A properly working and flowing well should refill as you pump the water from it.

I have a water well and shower 10 to 15 minutes sometimes and also will sometimes run my sprinkler in the summer for the kids and for myself and it sometimes runs 30 minutes to an hour before I shut it off.

Well water is the healthiest water to drink along with natural spring water.

Water without the added chemicals is the healthiest water you can drink and drinking well water can keep you healthier and prevent possible health conditions such as heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, kidney failure and even cancers.

Well water is better for you than city water as well water contains no added chemicals such as chlorine and fluoride or other harsh water treatment chemicals.

The water from water wells goes through a natural purifying process without the addition of harmful chemicals that can harm your health.

Many people have no choice but to use city water but if you have the option or already have a water well then well water is the best water you can drink.

It OK to drink well water as long as the well water has no bacteria that is bad in it.

If your well is properly drilled and constructed and sealed then the well water should be very safe to drink straight from the well.

In fact well water is healthier for you and safer for you to drink than city water is as city water contains added chemicals including chlorine to disinfect the water which can lead to kidney failure, heart disease, liver failure and even cancer.

The city water also contains fluoride which is healthy in small amounts but can be harmful if ingested in large quantities.

Well water comes straight from the ground without those added chemicals that are not meant to be ingested.

Well water also contains other minerals and nutrients including iron which our bodies need to stay healthy.

People drinking well water have a lower risk of heart disease, liver disease, kidney failure or kidney disease and other health issues than people drinking city water with added chemicals.

I have well water at my house and would never drink city water or hook onto city water.

My well water tastes much better than city water and is healthier and contains no added chemicals and I pay no water bill either.
