If a scar is gonna fade it can take up to 2 years for the scar to start to disappear as this is when collagen breaks down at the location of your wound and your blood supply reduces.
Once that happens then the scar should gradually become paler, smoother and softer.
However all scars are permanent and never really go away.
I have a scar on my arm that I got 26 years ago and it's still there although it faded some.
