Most healthy adult dogs can hold their pee for around 6 to 8 hours.

Smaller healthy adult dogs can hold their pee for around 2 to 5 hours.

And puppies tend to only be able to hold their pee for around 30 minutes or less depending on the dog.

Dogs that are older may not be able to hold their pee for longer than 30 minutes to an hour or may not have any control over their bladder at all.

Dogs that have medical conditions such as urinary tract infections may not be able to hold their pee for too long.

If possible you should take your dog out to pee and poop every few hours.

If left alone they can often hold it for a few hours or longer but may pee in their crate or in the house if left to roam the house.

Prolonged withholding of urine in dogs can cause health issues such as kidney failure, kidney disease, urinary tract infections and other health issues.

On average dogs need to be let out 3 to 5 times a day to pee and have the opportunity to run around and eliminate.

Adult dogs should not ideally go longer than 6 to 8 hours without peeing or between trips outdoors.

You should walk your dog 3 to 4 times per day for at least 15 minutes.
