A nasal endoscopy can in rare cases cause damage.

Nasal endoscopy's are generally very safe although they can cause complications.

Serious damage from a nasal endoscopy can happen but is rare.

The possible serious damage from a nasal endoscopy include damage to the nasal cavity, damage to the sinuses, eye irritation, bleeding and infection.

Mild nosebleeds are possible during or even after the nasal endoscopy although the nosebleeds often stop within a couple of minutes.

You may also experience some discomfort or pressure as the endoscope is inserted and you may have some soreness such as a sore nose or sore throat, especially after the numbing spray wears off.

The light from the endoscope may also cause temporary irritation to the eyes.

And you may also experience coughing or sneezing during the nasal endoscopy procedure.

You may even feel like there is something in your throat which is common during the nasal endoscopy procedure.

A nasal endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure which allows a doctor to examine the interior of your nasal passages and your sinuses using a thin, flexible or even rigid tube known as an endoscope.

Nasal endoscopy procedures are used to diagnose nasal and sinus conditions like nasal polyps, sinusitis and nasal tumors and to evaluate the effectiveness of treatments such as medications and nasal sprays and guide surgical interventions like endoscopic sinus surgery.

To perform the nasal endoscopy you will sit in an upright position.

The doctor will then spray a topical anesthetic into your nasal passages to numb the area.

Then the doctor gently inserts the endoscope into one of your nostrils and then into the other.

The doctor then examines your nasal passages and sinuses and looks for signs of inflammation, polyps and any abnormalities.

The endoscope may also be used to obtain tissue samples for a biopsy.

You may experience temporary discomfort, runny nose or nasal congestion afterwards and you should avoid any strenuous activity for a few hours after the nasal endoscopy and use a nasal saline rinse to keep your nasal passages clean.
