Things that can harm the respiratory system are smoking, secondhand smoke, chemicals, dust, asbestos, mold, radon, mildew, dust mites, car exhaust, engine exhaust, air pollution and other poor air quality and even breathing in paint fumes and other chemical fumes.

The most common respiratory disorder for the elderly is Asthma.

The common respiratory disease in old age is Asthma which is a condition that causes tight chest, difficulty breathing, wheezing and dry, hacking cough.

Asthma occurs when the lungs airways become inflamed to the point that breathing becomes difficult.
