Sepsis of the bowel is when your GI tract is perforated and the contents can then spill into the abdomen and cause peritonitis which is an infection that can lead to sepsis.

Sepsis and sepsis of the bowel is a life threatening response to an infection and is also called blood poisoning that requires immediate medical treatment.

The symptoms of Sepsis of the bowel include.

Body temperature above 101 F (38.3 C) or below 96.8 F (36 C)
Chills.
Heart rate higher than 90 beats a minute.
Respiratory rate higher than 20 breaths a minute.
Abdominal pain.
Nausea.
Vomiting.

Bacterial infections are one of the most common causes of sepsis.

Fungal, parasitic and viral infections are also potential sepsis causes.

You can get sepsis when an infection triggers a chain reaction throughout your body causing organ dysfunction.

Sepsis caused by intestinal infection can occur even if no typical source of CD infection is found.

Typical sources of infection in patients with CD are fistulas, abscesses, and phlegmons due to microperforations of the intestine caused by inflammatory processes.

Sepsis can overwhelm the body.

This can cause vital organs to shut down.

This usually starts with the kidneys.

When treatment or medical intervention is missing, sepsis is a leading cause of death, more significant than breast cancer, lung cancer, or heart attack.

Research shows that the condition can kill an affected person in as little as 12 hours.

Sepsis can be divided into three stages: sepsis, severe sepsis and septic shock.

Sepsis: Sepsis is life-threatening.

It happens when your immune system overreacts to an infection.

Symptoms of fecal impaction extend from constipation, anorexia, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, to full blown sepsis.

As sepsis worsens or septic shock develops, an early sign, particularly in older people or the very young, may be confusion or decreased alertness.

Blood pressure decreases, yet the skin is paradoxically warm.

Later, extremities become cool and pale, with peripheral cyanosis and mottling.
