Allergies can sometimes trigger autoimmune disease  as people with allergies have an increased risk of developing autoimmune disease.

Allergic rhinitis is an inflammatory autoimmune disease that causes symptoms such as sneezing, itchy nose, difficulty breathing and/or runny nose (medical term: increased nasal discharge).

You can have allergic reactions all of a sudden even when you were not previously allergic to something due to changes in your immune system and genetics.

Onset allergies can occur most often in people in their 20s and 30s although ti's also possible to develop allergies to something at any age.

As we age our body's immune system becomes weaker over time and we are more susceptible to illness, including allergies.

When you have an allergic reaction your bodies immune system overreacts by producing antibodies that are called Immunoglobulin E(lgE) which travel to the cells that release chemicals that cause an allergic reaction.

The allergic reactions most often cause symptoms on your skin, in the lining of your stomach, ears, throat, sinuses, lungs and nose.

The 5 allergic reactions are.

Hives.
Swelling around the mouth, throat, face or tongue.
Vomiting and Nausea.
Itching in just one certain part of the body also known as localized pruritus.
Itching all over the body also known as generalized pruritus.

The four types of allergic reactions are cell-mediated, immunocomplex, cytotoxic and anaphylactic allergic reactions.

Fatigue from allergies will feel like you have low energy, feeling of drowsiness, hazy feeling and brain fog.

Also if the allergies are keeping you awake at night then you may experience irritability, impaired mental performance, physical fatigue and low energy.

Taking some allergy medicines can also make you feel tired and drowsy.

Food that contains antihistamine are tomatoes, tomato juice, strawberries, kiwifruit, citrus fruit, cauliflower, cantaloupe, broccoli and bell peppers.

Getting food allergens out of your system takes a few hours to a few days depending on the severity of the food allergy.

In some cases food allergens may trigger a life threatening response which requires immediate medical attention.

The three symptoms of a food allergy are stomach pain, feeling sick and swelling of the lips, face and eyes.

Other symptoms of a food allergy are diarrhea, sneezing, itchy, runny or blocked nose, coughing, wheezing, breathlessness, noisy breathing or a hoarse voice, itchy skin or a raised rash, hives, feeling lightheaded or feeling dizzy.

To get rid of an allergic reaction fast you should get away from the allergen if possible and then take some antihistamines and decongestants or other allergy medicines.

You can buy over the counter allergy medicine that usually works for most allergies but if over the counter allergy medicine and antihistamines are not working then you should see your doctor to get prescription strength antihistamines or allergy medicine.

Decongestants also help to clear your nose and help with seasonal allergies.

An EpiPen and Anapen which are adrenaline injectors also work well for allergies and are good for people to use that are also not medically trained.

An allergic reaction can last for a few hours to a few days or longer depending on what is causing the allergic reaction.

Allergic reactions to things such as pollen, dust etc will last until the source of the allergic reaction has gone away.

Allergic reactions to things such as food will last until the food is out of your system which could take 24 to 48 hours or until you seek medical attention.

An allergic reaction will go away by itself in most cases unless it's a severe and serious allergic reaction.

If you're having a severe allergic reaction or a life threatening allergic reaction then you should seek medical attention right away.

But for other allergic reactions that are not too severe then they will most often go away on their own.

The signs of a severe allergic reaction are.

Skin rashes, itching or hives.
Swelling of the lips, tongue or throat.
Shortness of breath, trouble breathing or wheezing (whistling sound during breathing)
Dizziness and/or fainting.
Stomach pain, bloating, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Uterine cramps.
Feeling like something awful is about to happen.

An allergic reaction is serious if you get a skin rash that may include itchy, red, swollen, blistered or peeling skin. you're wheezing. you get tightness in the chest or throat. you have trouble breathing or talking.

Allergic reactions are sensitivities to substances called allergens that come into contact with the skin, nose, eyes, respiratory tract, and gastrointestinal tract.

They can be breathed into the lungs, swallowed, or injected.

The symptoms of an allergic reaction include.

Skin reactions, including hives and itching and flushed or pale skin.
Low blood pressure (hypotension)
Constriction of the airways and a swollen tongue or throat, which can cause wheezing and trouble breathing.
A weak and rapid pulse.
Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
Dizziness or fainting.

When you're allergic to something the allergic reaction usually begins within 10 to 24 hours after being exposed to the allergen.

Then when you do get the allergic reaction the allergic reaction typically lasts from 2 weeks to 4 weeks.

If the allergic reaction lasts longer than 4 weeks or the allergy symptoms start to get worse then you should see your doctor.

It might also be a good idea to see a doctor if the allergic reaction doesn't go away within a week just to be safe and make sure it's not something more serious.

But if it's not a deadly allergic reaction and just an allergic reaction to something such as pollen then the allergic reaction should go away within 1 to 4 weeks.

Sometimes my allergies go away within a week and sometimes they persist for 4 weeks.
