The reason there's a shortage of masking tape is because of the Covid-19 pandemic which has slowed down production of masking tape and other materials and also because of materials not being able to be shipped and arriving at factories on time.

Even when the masking tape has been made it needs to be shipped to the stores or to where it will be sold and there's also a shortage of people to drive the trucks or delivery vehicles to get the product to where it needs to be from the factory.

If your masking tape won't stick it can be caused by moist or humid air or the masking tape could be too old and the adhesive has lost it's ability to stick to surfaces.

Another reason for the masking tape to not stick is due to dirt or other debris that can cause the adhesive of the masking tape to not stick.

If the masking tape is not sticking due to moist or humid air then you can fix the problem by opening doors and windows to allow air to move around and wash the surface completely with water and use a rag and bucket and allow the surface to dry or use a hair dryer or fan to dry out the surface faster.

Yellow masking tape is better than blue masking tape as yellow masking tape adheres to surfaces better and for longer.

You can also leave the yellow masking tape on surfaces for up to 14 days without doing damage to the walls or surfaces.

The blue masking tape also produces clean lines but only if you remove the blue masking tape within 3 days of applying it.

Frog Tape is better than normal masking tape as it does a better job and gives cleaner results.

Although painters tape and frog tape is more expensive than normal masking tape it is worth it for a nice paint job.

The most popular masking tape is Scotch Blue Original Multi Surface Painters Tape.

Other most popular masking tapes are.

STIKK Blue Painters Tape.
Scotch Rough Surface Painter's Tape.
Duck Clean Release Blue Painters Tape.
FROGTAPE Multi Surface Painters Tape.

Professional painters use Frogtape painters tape.

Some professional painters simply use regular masking tape or painters tape but Frogtape painters tape is the most common choice of painters tape for professional painters.

A substitute for masking tape is painters tape which is similar to masking tape and is made and designed for painting projects.

The painters tape provides nice and clean lines and easily removes without damaging surfaces.

Masking tape has a shelf life of up to 2 years and overtime the adhesive can start to degrade and not stick and sometimes the tape may not come off the roll easily after 2 years or longer.

Masking tape is a type of pressure-sensitive tape made of a thin and easy-to-tear paper, and an easily released pressure-sensitive adhesive.

Masking tape is available in a variety of widths.

It is used mainly in painting, to mask off areas that should not be painted.

Masking tape is also known as painters tape although they do have some differences.

The difference between painter's tape and masking tape lies primarily in the adhesive.

Masking tape is designed to be extra sticky and not come off, while painter's tape is designed to have a low tack that makes it easier to remove after painting and less likely to leave residue.

Masking tape can be used for painting, but it needs to be removed in a matter of hours; while painter's tape can be left on for a long time and still leave no residues when removed.

Functional integrity: water-based paint can cause masking tape to collapse or crumble, letting paint drip on the surface below.

Wait until the paint is dry to the touch before removing the tape.

Check the paint can for the manufacturer's dry times.

Use a putty knife or razor blade to score along the edge of the tape.

This prevents paint from being pulled up with the tape and from cracking along the paint line.

Professional painters should also use a tape that is made specifically with painting in mind, while a general-purpose masking tape may be sufficient for some hobbyists and DIYers doing smaller projects.

Whether you're cutting in or making an isolated line, painter's tape can create a straight line on almost any surface.

Although blue tape works best for sensitive indoor walls, you may want to consider using green painter's tape if you plan on painting a rough, uneven surface or painting outdoors.
