If your washing machine is not switching cycles then the most common culprit is the lid switch which is for safety to prevent you from getting your hand caught in the tub and it spinning.

The lid switch being broken or not working can prevent the washing machine from going through it's cycles.

The washing machine lid switch can be replaced easily or simply bypassed by cutting the wires and splicing them together.

The washing machine cycle switch with the knob could also be bad if it's not the lid switch.

A bad lid switch will cause a washer to not spin.

The lid switch on a washing machine is a safety mechanism and will prevent the washing machine from going through the wash cycles and prevent it from spinning.

When the washing machine is operating and you lift the lid the washing machine should stop spinning out and when you clothes the lid the washing machine should start spinning out again.

You can bypass the washing  machine lid switch by disconnecting the wires to the lid switch and simply wiring the wires together and using a wire nut to secure it and then taping over it.

Or you can replace the lid switch on the washing machine easily as well.

I have just cut the wires to the lid switch on my washing machine when the washing machine lid switch went bad and then tied them together and it has worked fine ever since.

Other reasons that the washing machine is not spinning out are the washing machine is too full, the load in the washing machine is not properly balanced or the washing machine itself is not balanced correctly or the cycle selector switch is bad and not going through the cycles like it should.

The lid switch is the most common culprit of a washing machine not spinning out if it does not go through the cycles.

Or if the washing machine cycle selector switch is working then it could be the brakes on the washing machine not releasing to allow the washing machine tub to spin or the washing machine belt if it has one could be slipping or broken.
