Blankets can smell bad after washing when they don't get completely dry due to hard water or when the blanket has some bacteria on them.

You can get rid of the bad smell of the blanket after washing by adding a cup or two cups of vinegar to the washing machine and the vinegar will kill the odor on the blanket and won't hurt the blanket.

You should machine wash a down comforter but just make sure to avoid using hot water or harsh chemicals to protect the down comforter.

Always wash the down comforter by itself.

When washing a down comforter you should use a gentle- or delicate-cycle setting and a minimal amount of mild laundry detergent with your load.

Choose lukewarm water, as hot or cold water can be hard on the down comforter.

An extra rinse cycle can help ensure all soap is removed from the down comforter as well.

Zippers should be zipped up before washing clothes as doing so will protect the teeth of the zippers during the washing which ensures the zippers open and clothes properly.

Zipping up the zippers on clothes before washing the clothes also protects the rest of the clothes as the zippers can snag on the other clothes.

You can wear clothes a couple of times before washing them unless the clothes get dirty sooner or if you're sweating a lot.

If the clothes are dirty or you're sweating then you should wash the clothes after every one time of wearing them.

Jeans can sometimes be worn as much as 3 times before washing them unless they get dirty sooner.

You can put moldy clothes in the washing machine they will sometimes come clean if they are a little moldy.

However if the clothes are really moldy then washing them won't get them clean.

A good way to clean moldy clothes is to use white distilled vinegar.

Soak the moldy clothes in a bucket of water mixed with one cup of vinegar or you can also add 1 to 2 cups of vinegar to the washing machine per wash cycle to kill mold and mildew and to also brighten the white clothes.

You can put a dry towel in with wet clothes to help them dry faster.

The dry towel when put in the dryer with wet clothes helps to absorb the moisture in the wet clothes and helps speed up the time for drying the clothes.

The dry towel works as a wick to pull moisture out of the wet clothes and then into the dry towel.

Also putting a dry towel in with the wet clothes helps to fluff up the clothes and soften the clothes as well.

Wet clothes can sit for up to 12 hours before smelling.

When wet clothes sit for longer than 12 hours they can begin smelling because mildew and bacteria will form on the wet clothes which then results in the bad smelling clothes.

You should not leave wet clothes sitting in the washing machine or dryer for longer than 12 hours.

The reason you can't hang clothes outside at night is because of the potential for bugs and spiders to get onto your clothes as bugs and spiders are pretty active at night.

However other than that there's nothing wrong with hanging your clothes up outside at night to dry.

Your clothes should be just fine when you hang them outside at night.

Outdoor clothes drying takes advantage of nature's unique deodorizing and stain-fighting powers.

The sun and fresh air do more than dry your clothes, they also continue to clean your clothes.

Direct sunlight helps naturally bleach and disinfect laundry – removing visible and invisible dirt and bacteria.

While it's hard to generalize about how long it will take your laundry to air-dry—fabric type, air temperature, and presence or absence of wind all play a part—expect it to take 2 to 4 hours for most types of fabric on a pleasantly warm day with a light breeze.

You can leave your clothes to dry out overnight, but it may not dry as effectively without the sun's rays.

Laundry left out overnight may further dampen due to mist, dew or unexpected rain.

If you need to leave laundry outside at night, it's best to do so in the summer, since the air will be warmer and drier.

The late morning to early afternoon hours, between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is the best time of day to hang your clothes out to dry.

During this part of the day, the sunshine will adequately dry and disinfect your clothes.

The sun's powerful ultraviolet rays (UV) are their strongest in this time frame.

Wet clothes placed on a clothes line dry in sunlight after some time because the water present in wet clothes gets converted into water vapor and is released into the atmosphere due to evaporation which leaves them dry.

When adding vinegar to a washing machine you put the vinegar in the washing machine's fabric softener compartment or put the vinegar in the washing machine tub directly just before the rinse cycle.

Or if you're using the vinegar to wash clothes then put the vinegar in the washing machine the same as you would the laundry detergent.

You can put vinegar directly into the washing machine tub or add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the washing machines fabric softener compartment just before the rinse cycle.

You can also add 4 to 4 drops of essential oil to the fabric softener compartment to add a mild scent to your laundry.

The vinegar that is best for cleaning washing machines is distilled white vinegar.
