Do I have to pay taxes twice if I buy a car out of state?

No. You'll only pay the auto sales tax in the state you get the car registered in.

So there's only one auto sales tax you'll need to pay when you purchase a car out of state.

You won't pay the tax in the state you bought the car though so you won't be saving any money by buying a car in a state with lower sales tax.
