Ladybugs can live indoors without food for up to 9 months as once the ladybug finds a safe and warm environment they can regulate their body temperature and live off of their own energy reserves.

Ladybugs find their way inside because they're looking for a shelter in which to overwinter.

That means they're searching for someplace warm and dry where they can wait out the cold season, and our cozy homes are perfect for this purpose.

Coccinellidae is a widespread family of small beetles.

They are commonly known as ladybugs in North America and ladybirds elsewhere in the English-speaking world; "lady" referring to mother Mary. Entomologists prefer the names ladybird beetles or lady beetles to avoid confusion with true bugs.

Ladybugs are beneficial insects that play a major role in keeping down populations of insects that feed on plants.

Perhaps most importantly, ladybugs are predators with an insatiable appetite for aphids.

A ladybug can eat up to 5,000 aphids over its lifetime.

Ladybugs, or lady beetles, are considered a beneficial bug which helps rid an area of crop-damaging aphids, mealybugs and other destructive insect pests.

The adult ladybugs feed on these insects.

They also lay their eggs among the aphids or other prey so the emerging larvae can feed on the insects, too.

Ladybugs are attracted to warm, safe, dry places away from danger and colder temperatures.

They often crawl in through holes, cracks, and openings in your home.

Keep your windows and doors shut and be sure to close up any holes or openings in your walls that might allow these bugs and their friends to enter your home.

While they're often said to be signs of good luck, ladybugs aren't pests that we want in our homes.

Because they can invade homes quickly and cause severe damage, it's best to keep them under control just like any bug. Don't worry, this won't give you bad luck!
