Most Rats will only come out during the night time since Rats are nocturnal which means the Rats are most active during the night.
Usually when the Rats come out during the day it means that their nest was disturbed, there's a large infestation of the Rats or they could be out hunting for food during the day if they're hungry or ran out of food.
