Mesh is used in abdominal hysterectomy and the mesh used in open or laparoscopic abdominal approach is used after hysterectomy and is attached to the apex of your vagina and may also be attached to your anterior or posterior vaginal wall to prevent a future vaginal vault prolapse.

They do use mesh in a hysterectomy as a way to stave off or treat existing vaginal vault prolapse.

The vaginal vault prolapse is a condition in which your upper section of your vagina changes shape and begins to drop downward into your vaginal canal.

A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the womb (uterus).

You'll no longer be able to get pregnant after the operation.

If you have not already gone through the menopause, you'll no longer have periods, regardless of your age.

Many women have a hysterectomy.

A total hysterectomy removes all of the uterus, including the cervix.

The ovaries and the fallopian tubes may or may not be removed.

This is the most common type of hysterectomy.

A partial, also called subtotal or supracervical, hysterectomy removes just the upper part of the uterus.

Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus.

It may also involve removal of the cervix, ovaries, Fallopian tubes, and other surrounding structures.

Usually performed by a gynecologist, a hysterectomy may be total or partial.
