After back surgery you cannot and should not do any strenuous activity such as aerobic exercise, heavy lifting, weight lifting, jogging or bicycle riding.

Also you cannot and should not drive for 2 to 4 weeks after the back surgery and avoid riding in a car for longer than 30 minutes at a time for 2 to 4 weeks after the back surgery.

You can strengthen your back after back surgery by doing wall squats.

Stand with your back leaning against wall.
Walk feet 12 inches in front of body.
Keep abdominal muscles tight while slowly bending both knees to 45°.
Hold 5 seconds.
