Tortoises are very long livers even as pets so be prepared to keep and take care of the tortoise for most if not all your life until you die.

It's possible the tortoise could outlive you yourself. Tortoises can live from 50 to 100 years as pets and sometimes even longer out in the wild.

There's been some tortoises that have been known to live as old as 200 years.
