Childhood obesity first started in the 1960s and then increased in the 1980s and 1990s.

Childhood obesity is most common in Cooks Island and Palau as well as India and China.

Childhood obesity affects children as childhood obesity makes the child less healthy and puts the child at risk for heart disease, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure and early death.

Also being obese causes the child to feel ashamed and puts them at more risk of being teased and bullied which can lead to low self esteem and possibly suicidal thoughts.

Childhood obesity is a complex type of disease that occurs when the child is above their normal healthy weight for the child's age and height.

Childhood obesity is defined medically as having a body mass index at or above the 95th percentile.

Childhood obesity effects physical development as children who are obese are usually taller for their age although they are also fatter and mature faster.

However the obese children do not tend to attain taller height as adults because excess adiposity during early childhood has an influence on the process of the child's growth and puberty.

Parenting does affect children's eating and weight status.

The three forms of a child's behavior (sleeping, watching TV, and healthy eating patterns) are affected by what parents do, while only the time dedicated to sleep (positively) and watching TV (negatively) significantly contribute to prevent the child's overweight.

If your child can't lose weight they may have a health issue such as problems with their metabolism or thyroid issues.

Your child may not lose weight like they should also because as a parent you set unrealistic goals for the child's weight loss.

A BMI percentile of 95 or above indicates obesity, while percentiles between 85 and 95 indicate a child is overweight.

The fastest way for a kid to lose weight is to get them to exercise for at least 60 minutes each day.

Keep the child's meals to child size portions and serve healthy meals, healthy snacks and drinks and encourage more sleep and less screen time.

Get the child to go walking, playing sports if they will, swim etc.

The main causes of childhood obesity are fast food, unhealthy food, lack of exercise and physical activity and also sometimes genetics.

If your child is overweight you should feed the child healthy meals and avoid fast food, encourage and promote physical activity in your child by walking, playing outside, riding a bicycle etc.

Even swimming is good exercise for children who are obese and overweight.

Also be a good role model for them and don't allow as much screen time.

The common consequences of childhood obesity are sleep apnea, asthma, breathing problems, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

We can prevent child and childhood obesity by ensuring your kids or kid eats healthy, eats less fast food, stays active, avoiding too much screen time, set consistent sleep routines and model a healthy eating pattern.

Also getting out with your child such as to the park, going for a walk, riding a bicycle etc can all help prevent childhood and child obesity.

Parents are sometimes responsible for childhood obesity as some parents allow their kids to stay inactive, eat unhealthy, feed them too much fast food etc.

However genetics and other factors that parents are not responsible for can also cause childhood obesity.

The children that are at highest risk for obesity are Hispanic children and non Hispanic Children.

White non Hispanic Children are also at risk of obesity but not as much.

Child obesity is on the rise due to fast food, too many hours spent in front of the television, computer, tablet and lack of exercise as well as fast food and unhealthy foods.

Kids are not eating as healthy today and are not as active as they once were which increases the chance of childhood obesity.

Child obesity is a problem as it's a serious medical condition that affects children's health and can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even death in severe cases.

The long term effects of childhood obesity are fatty liver disease, risk of diabetes, coronary artery disease and arterial hypertension.

Also obesity increases atherosclerosis progression already in young adults and children.

Childhood obesity can affect children emotionally and psychologically by causing sleep disorders, low self esteem, depression and anxiety.

Also children who are obese are more a target for bullying and being made fun of which also affects the child emotionally and psychologically.

The 5 factors contributing to the increase in childhood obesity are environmental difficulties, lack of physical activity, unhealthy habits and genetics.

The country that is #1 in childhood obesity is Mexico.

Mexico has the highest prevalence globally for childhood obesity.

The most obese child is Jessica Leonard who is known as the heaviest recorded child to ever live.

At her largest weight Jessica Leonard weighed 420 lbs which is unimaginable when she was only 8 years old.

At 12 months old Jessica Leonard had a body mass index of 56 and a year later she weighed 110 lbs and then a year after that when she was age 3 she weighed a whopping 170 lbs.

When you have obesity you can live up to 3 less years with moderate obesity and for those who are morbidly obese you live around 10 years less.

In some cases being Obese can shorten your life as much as 14 to 20 years.
