Kids should stop taking naps when they no longer need naps which is usually around age 3 or age 5.

If the kid still needs a nap then they should take a nap but you should not force a kid to nap if they don't want too or don't need to.

Some kids will stop needing naps around age 2 years old and some kids may need a nap until age 3 age 4 or even age 5.

After age 5 most kids stop taking naps.

However if you a 6 or even 7 year old needs a nap then they should take a 30 minute to an hour nap.

By age age three, almost all children still nap at least once per day.

And sixty percent of four-year-olds still nap.

However, by five years of age, most children no longer need naps, with less than 30% of children that age still taking them.

Naps are important for toddlers because the naps provide much-needed downtime that aids the important physical and mental development that happens in early childhood.

Naps also help keep kids from becoming overtired, which can affect their moods and make it harder for them to fall asleep at night.

Nighttime sleep appears to be more critical for development of cognitive performance.

Cessation of napping may serve as a developmental milestone of brain maturation.

Children who nap less do not appear to be sleep deprived, especially if they compensate with increased nighttime sleep.
