It's recommended to just keep your dogs water bowl filled when at home and let them drink as much water as they want too so they can stay hydrated.
When you're on a road trip you should give them water at every stop you make.
A dog will drink enough water to keep them hydrated so just leave out enough water for them to drink throughout the day and the dog will be fine.
