Twins can be born a year apart or even a few years apart although twins being born in different years is as rare as 1 in 2 million but it's possible.

Most twins are born at the same time and within minutes of each other.

The pros of having twins are.

You have 2 kids at once.

The twins have each other to play with so there's no need for a playgroup unless you want to have one.

You can more easily escape awkward conversations with strangers.

You never have to worry about having nice things again.

You have tougher skin.

Knowing that you're only going to have to go through pregnancy once to end up with two children.

Enjoying the fun of choosing two baby names that fit together perfectly.

Being able to hold one baby in each arm while feeling a huge rush of love and pride.

It is expensive to have twins.

Not only is it expensive to have twins but it's also expensive to raise twins although it's no different than the cost of raising 2 kids.

Raising twins can cost as much as $300,000.00 to $400,000.00 by the time they reach 18 years of age.

The mother of the father of the twins carry the twin gene which is then passed down to the mother of the twin through the father.

Twins are now considered to be a blessing and are considered lucky although before twins used to be considered a curse and not lucky.

Twins are lucky and it's considered good luck to have twins.

In ancient times, the Yoruba viewed twins with suspicion, and sometimes sacrificed them.

Although now twins are considered lucky.

In contrast to the Western view, the firstborn twin is considered the younger of the two.

The Yoruba believe that the "senior" twin sent the younger one out first to scout the world.

Twins are not going extinct although the birthrate of twins is going down.

There's not as many twins being born now as there used to be but it's unlikely that twins will become fully extinct as twins are still being born but not as many twins are being born.

Having twins can be bad as being pregnant with twins or multiples puts the babies at more risk of developing birth defects such as heart defects, digestive system defects, bladder defects, congenital heart defects, cerebral palsy, spina bifida and other neural tube defects.

However most twins are born healthy and without any issue but having twins and multiple babies increases the risk of birth defects.

Being a twin can make you shorter although some twins are actually pretty tall or average height.

One twin may even be slightly shorter than than the other twin and some twins even are fatter and weigh more than the other twin as well.

If identical twins have a baby they won't have identical offspring or identical babies because the only way you get identical offspring or babies is when a fertilized egg splits into 2 cells.

It's when those identical cells grow into identical twins and you get the identical twins.

Boy and girl twins are called fraternal twins.

When a boy and girl are born as twins they are called fraternal twins and do not have the same DNA.

If boy and boy twins or girl and girl twins also known as same sex twins are born then they are called identical twins as they have the same DNA.

Identical twins share the same genomes and are always of the same sex.

In contrast, fraternal (dizygotic) twins result from the fertilization of two separate eggs with two different sperm during the same pregnancy.

Twins are harder to carry than a single baby although it's not all that hard to carry twins.

You may experience more cramping and some more back pain with twin pregnancy but for the most part it's not much different than carrying and giving birth to a single baby but you should be prepared to go through slightly more pain with twins.

Twin pregnancies are harder than a single non twin pregnancy with just one baby.

However having twins and going through a twin pregnancy is not much harder than just giving birth to one baby but the pain may be slightly more and of course you'll have to push out 2 babies instead of one and go through the pain the second time.

Carrying twins can be a bit harder on you than carrying one baby but it's not as hard as carrying triplets or more than 3 babies at a time.

Most women who do have twins do experience more cramps due to the uterus expanding fairly quickly.

Twin pregnancies are more painful and women who have twins tend to have more back pain more severe stomach cramping and even a more painful pregnancy in general when giving birth to twins.

Being pregnant with twins also carries a higher rate of maternal anemia and a higher rate of postpartum hemorrhage (bleeding) after delivery.

Some women who are pregnant with twins may even decide to abort one twin and keep the other twin alive if they are having complications or if they cannot take care of twins and only want one baby.
