Your arm can feel paralyzed when you sleep because you compress a nerve or cut off blood flow to the arm by laying on it.

As you sleep you can sometimes accidentally roll over onto your arms or get your arms or arm underneath your body and then pinch off or compress a nerve or blood vessels which then lead to the arm becoming numb, paralyzed and limp.

Your arm can go limp when you sleep when you pinch a nerve or cut off some blood flow to the arm.

Sometimes when you sleep you may roll over onto your arm and compress a nerve or blood vessel and then your arm goes limp and numb.

It's nothing to worry about and shaking your arm or massaging your arm and waiting a bit will allow the arm to get it's feeling back.

Your arm can go limp when you sleep when you happen to lay on your arm or otherwise put pressure on it.

This prevents the blood from flowing correctly to your nerves.

Poor positioning may also lead to pressure being placed directly on a nerve.

The nerves react to the lack of blood flow or pinching by causing momentary tingling.

The most common reason for getting a numb hand or arm is sitting or sleeping in the same position for a long time.

That can put pressure on your nerves and cut off blood flow, which brings on short-term numbness.

Sleeping on your left side to make it easier for blood to flow in and around your heart.

Keeping your arms at your sides instead of under or behind your head.

A few hours of nerve compression and decreased blood flow won't make your arm fall off.

But if paresthesia continues over a period of days or weeks, it can lead to lasting damage.

Try to keep the arm lower than at a right angle to your body (the lower the better normally but don't put your arm flat under your body as you will squash the shoulder).

With the bad arm uppermost, use a pillow to rest the arm on. Don't just let it hang onto the bed as that can cause pain.

Sleeping on your back offers the most health benefits.

It protects your spine, and it can also help relieve hip and knee pain.

Sleeping on your back uses gravity to keep your body in an even alignment over your spine.

This can help reduce any unnecessary pressure on your back or joints.
