Some cell phones have RFID Chips although not all cell phones have the RFID chips.

Most modern smartphones have an RFID chip inside them.

And, the RFID chip adheres to the NFC standard, meaning that all smartphones these days can operate as NFC cards.

NFC enabled phones can ONLY read NFC and passive high frequency RFID (HF-RFID).

These must be read at an extremely close range, typically a few centimeters.

For longer range or any other type of RFID/active RFID, you must use an external reader for handling them with mobile devices.

If you're worried about identity theft or credit card fraud, you should be more concerned about other, verifiable crime that's actually happening, like phishing scams.

While there's no harm in using an RFID-blocking product, it's unlikely to help, and there's no real need to spend money on them.

iPhones, like all modern smartphones, come equipped with a standard Bluetooth chip.

These chips emit signals in the radio wave range and turn your iPhone into a sort of RFID emitter.

To scan an NFC tag, swipe up from the bottom of the iPhone screen to bring up the Control Center.

Find and tap the NFC reader button on the bottom as shown in the screenshot below.

It will activate the NFC reader and you can tap the top left corner of your iPhone on the tag gently.

RFID tags have no components sensitive to magnets.

Radio-frequency identification, or RFID, uses radio waves to transfer data from a RFID tag to a transceiver.

Radio-frequency identification uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects.

An RFID system consists of a tiny radio transponder, a radio receiver and transmitter.

Radio frequency identity (RFID) chips are tiny computer chips connected to miniature antennas that can be placed on or in physical objects.

They are used in a wide variety of applications where “contactless” authentication is desired, including toll booths, transit passes, passports, and contactless entry keys.

The lifespan of an RFID tag depends on many factors.

If the antenna and chip are exposed to harsh chemicals or high levels of heat, it might not last for very long.

But under normal conditions, most tags can function for 20 years or more.
