Besides food and shelter the most important need of a child is love and care.

The most important needs of a child are.

Security.
Kids must feel safe and sound, with their basic survival needs met: shelter, food, clothing, medical care and protection from harm.
Stability. Stability comes from family and community.
Consistency.
Emotional support.
Love.
Education.
Positive role models.
Structure.

The most impressionable age is between the ages of 12 to 18 years of age.

However during the first 3 years of a child's life are also impressionable ages and even between the ages of 5 to 8 years old.

To keep a child mentally healthy you should.

Tell them that you love them.

Love your child unconditionally.
Encourage your children to talk about their feelings and validate their feelings.
Listen first, then talk.
Allow plenty of time for play and fun activities.
Discipline with respect and teaching, not shame.
Ask your child about their day.

The characteristics of a healthy child are.

Trust. A basic trust in others is the foundation on which all other traits rest.
Patience. It's true: Good things come to those who wait.
Responsibility.
Empathy.
Self-Reliance.

The 10 things that every child needs are.

   Quality time.
    Security.
    Affection.
    Emotional support.
    Education.
    Structure.
    Health care.
    Good role models.
    Play.
    Love.

Signs that your child respects you are they behave, do what they are told and shows concern, empathy, and a sense of civility towards others.

How To Teach Kids Respect.

Stay calm and don't overreact when you think your child is being disrespectful.
Identify the cause for disrespect and focus on teaching problem-solving alternatives.
Model how to be respectful by respecting your kids first.
Use kind and firm discipline to teach, not punish.

After discipline you should hug your child and tell them that you love them and you're disciplining them because you love them and want them to behave.

My mom used to hug me after spanking me and told me she loved me and she was spanking me out of love and not to hurt me.

I'm glad she spanked me as a kid for misbehaving as it helped me turn out to be a good person.

If your 5 year old is so angry it could be that the 5 year old is distressed, upset about something, or they may have autism, anxiety or ADHD which can make them feel so angry.
