If you're coughing up really thick mucus that is yellow, or green then you should go see a doctor about it since coughing up thick mucus could be a sign of something more serious.
Although if it's just a little thick then it could be a sign that your bacterial infection or cold is about to be over.
It's good to cough up some mucus when you have a cold or flu virus so if it's just that then you're likely okay.
Really thick mucus though can be a sign of Bronchitis which you should see a doctor about because Bronchitis can get serious enough to put you in the hospital.
