You can use your credit card to pay off someone else's credit card.

Although when you do pay off someone else's credit card with your credit card you then incur the debt on your credit card which means you're responsible for paying that back unless your friend or someone gives you the money to pay it off.

You can use your credit card online, over the phone etc to pay off someone else's credit card.

Log in to your online banking and set up the credit card company as a payee with your bank.

Simply add the name of the credit card company as a payee and include the account number of the person whose bill you want to pay.

All of the major credit card issuers and companies allow you to make a payment to a different cardholder's account, and the process is consistent.

If you don't expect repayment, anything you give to a person or even a third party, such as a credit card company, can be considered a gift by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Making more than one payment each month on your credit cards won't help increase your credit score.

But, the results of making more than one payment might.

It's better to pay off your credit card than to keep a balance.

It's best to pay a credit card balance in full because credit card companies charge interest when you don't pay your bill in full every month.

Paying off a credit card doesn't usually hurt your credit scores—just the opposite, in fact.

It can take a month or two for paid-off balances to be reflected in your score, but reducing credit card debt typically results in a score boost eventually, as long as your other credit accounts are in good standing.

How to pay off credit card debt

Use a balance transfer credit card.
Consolidate debt with a personal loan.
    Borrow money from family.
    Pay off high-interest debt first.
Pay off the smallest balance first.
