My own method is simply to have plenty of warm drinks and soups (having a bad throat doesn't make you want to eat solids anyway). I find a strong mouthwash will help loosen catarrh and supplement the effect of Vicks nasal inhalers. Keep warm, take a paracetamol or similar about half hour before bedtime and then put a couple of extra sheets on the bed in an attempt to sweat the flu out.
I realize many people would swear by the benefits of taking a hot bath, but the last thing I'd want to do if I had the flu and shivers would be to kit off... brrr.
I find it also helps to have silence, so earplugs would be an advantageous way of avoiding being disturbed while you sleep. Works every time..
We are all aware there is no cure for colds and flu...so why take drugs? The best remedies are the ones we all grew up with, the ones our parents nursed us better with ...and for each of us that's a unique concoction of common sense, rest, a little comfort and a whole lot of love.
