Oysters cannot feel pain as oysters lack a central nervous system.

In order to feel pain a central nervous system is needed and without the central nervous system they cannot feel pain.

Oysters can usually feel irritation.

Raw oysters are either still alive or freshly killed  when you eat them.

Many people think keeping them alive longer makes them safer to eat, but that's not the full story.

The risk of dying from eating a bad oyster is very low in comparison to dying from other foodborne illnesses such as salmonella.

Oyster is the common name for a number of different families of salt-water bivalve molluscs that live in marine or brackish habitats.

In some species, the valves are highly calcified, and many are somewhat irregular in shape.

Many, but not all oysters are in the superfamily Ostreoidea.

Oysters are a rich source of vitamin D, copper, zinc, and manganese.

These micronutrients, in combination with calcium, are thought to be key to slowing or even preventing bone loss in older women due to osteoporosis.

Additionally, dietary sources of these minerals are thought to be more effective than supplements.

Oysters are highly nutritious shellfish that offer a wide array of health benefits.

They're packed with high quality protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants all of which benefit health.

Still, raw oysters can contain potentially harmful bacteria.

To avoid getting sick, enjoy oysters cooked instead.

Oysters are filter feeders, and take in all different types of particles from the water column.

As oysters digest food, waste collects in a cavity inside their shell.

Besides to actual waste, items called pseudofaeces also collect there.
