The naloxone does increase respiratory rate in some people and also sometimes decreases respiratory rate in other people.

The only definitive indication for intravenous naloxone in patients on therapeutic opioids is respiratory depression, as evidenced by a decreased O2 saturation and respiratory rate that does not respond to verbal or physical stimulation and oxygenation.

Naloxone injection is Intramuscular although it can also be injected intranasally.

Intramuscular or intravenous injection of naloxone is common for overdose reversal, but it can also be effective when administered intranasally.

When Narcan is injected the Narcan is most often injected in the muscle of the upper thigh or upper arm.

The onset of action for Narcan is between 1 to 2 minutes after the Narcan has been administered.

NARCAN usually starts working within a few minutes and lasts from 30 to 90 minutes.

The respiratory rate that you give Narcan at is when the respiratory rate drops below 7 per minute.

Count respiratory rate for 1 full minute for accuracy and determine quality of respirations 3.

If respiratory rate drops below 7 per minute or becomes shallow with poor quality and patient is difficult to arouse, reversal with Naloxone is indicated.

Prior to the administration of naloxone all patients should be assessed for other causes of altered mental status and/or respiratory depression such as hypoxia, hypoglycemia, head injury, shock and stroke.

You should inject Narcan when you think or suspect someone has overdosed on drugs.

Give a new naloxone injection every 2 to 3 minutes if symptoms returned and monitor the patient until emergency medical assistance becomes available.

Even when naloxone is given to someone, it is critical to call 911 or get emergency medical help right away in all cases of known or possible opioid overdose.

Naloxone can be given safely whenever you think an opioid overdose may have occurred.

After administering Narcan you stay with the person and continue to observe the person continue rescue breathing with 1 breath every 5 seconds.

If the victim is still not responding in 3 to 5 minutes, give a second dose of naloxone.

Narcan is pushed slow while observing the patient over 30 seconds.

Administer dilute Naloxone 0.04mg (one 1mL vial) IV very slowly over 30 seconds while observing the persons response (titrate to effect).

The purpose is to reverse the side effects, not the analgesic effect of the narcotic.

Narcan is very effective at treating overdoses in people who use drugs.

Narcan comes in nasal spray and injection form and the injection form of Narcan is used by EMS and hospitals for emergency treatment of drug overdoses and it works very quickly to reverse the effects of the drug overdose.

NARCAN Nasal Spray is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose emergency with signs of breathing problems and severe sleepiness or not being able to respond.

After an Opioid overdose, Narcan helps prevent respiratory and central nervous system depression.

This occurs when breathing has slowed down or is at risk of stopping.

The medication is injected into a vein or muscle and starts to take effect within minutes.

Narcan won't have any effect on someone who doesn't need it (someone who is sober from opioids).

So it's safe to give someone Narcan if you think they may have overdosed on opioids but aren't sure.

Naloxone injection is used for emergency treatment of an opioid overdose or a possible overdose.

It will temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid medicine.

Naloxone (the active drug in Narcan) is given as an injection.

The naloxone injection is typically used in healthcare settings such as hospitals.

The main side effects of naloxone injection are opioid withdrawal symptoms similar to those seen with Narcan.
