There are 3 types of doctor degrees in general.

The different types of doctor degrees include the professional doctorate, the clinical doctorate, and the research doctorate.

In the science-based professional doctorate, the M.D. and D.O are the most well known.

A doctoral degree (PhD) is the highest degree you can earn in a particular field, but obtaining it isn't easy.

On average, doctoral candidates dedicate seven to ten years of their life earning a doctorate after completing undergraduate work.

MD and Phd are both higher degrees. MD stands for Doctor of Medicine, and Phd stands for Doctor of philosophy.

The first difference that can be mentioned of the two, is that MD is associated with treating patients, and Phd is related to a doctor's degree in other fields.

Most people may think of a general physician when first thinking of medical degrees and there are actually 2 different types of medical degrees available for physicians and surgeons.

These doctors can pursue a Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.

The steps to become a doctor include.

Complete an Undergraduate Education.
Pass the MCAT Examination.
Apply to Medical School.
Complete Training at Medical School.
Pass Parts I & II of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).
Match with Residency.
Graduate from Medical School & Start Residency.

Doctors must complete a four-year undergraduate program, along with four years in medical school and three to seven years in a residency program to learn the specialty they chose to pursue.

In other words, it takes between 10 to 14 years to become a fully licensed doctor.

It can take 11 or more years of education and training to become a medical doctor.

If you want to be a specialist, you may spend 13 or more years in practice and study.

The time and money invested in medical school and training is substantial, but job satisfaction and quality of life is high in this profession.
