Daddy Long Legs are not poisonous nor are they harmful.

The daddy long legs are not poisonous because they do not have venom glands, fangs or any other mechanism for chemically subduing their food.

Therefore, they do not have injectable toxins.

Some have defensive secretions that might be toxic to small animals if ingested.

So, for these daddy-long-legs, the tale is clearly false.

The Pholcidae are a family of araneomorph spiders.

The family contains over 1,800 individual species of pholcids, including those commonly known as cellar spider, daddy long-legs spider, carpenter spider, daddy long-legger, vibrating spider, gyrating spider, long daddy, and skull spider.

While daddy long legs are beneficial in the garden, it can be annoying (or even creepy) when you encounter them in your house.

To keep daddy long legs out of your home, trim plants away from your house and clean up the wood, trash and other debris around the perimeter of your house.

Harvestmen tend to live on the ground in moist areas, such as under logs and rocks.

Their long legs explain the “longlegs" part of their nickname, although no one knows for sure where the “daddy" part of the nickname came from

The average life span of an adult daddy-long-legs can vary from 223-774 days and in that time the female may produce from two to eight egg sacs containing a mix of fertilized and unfertilized eggs.

Adult daddy long legs only live for between five to 15 days, during which time they need to find a mate and the females lay eggs.

They are attracted to light, which is why you will often see them in your home, after their eggs are laid in moist or wet soil and grass.
