Bears are not in the dog family directly but bears are closely related to dogs.

Bears are in the Ursidae family.

Both dogs and bears are fascinating species of the animal kingdom.

While not closely related, the two do share a common ancestor – the miacids and have a handful of similarities, like being carnivores.

However, because bears and dogs belong to distinct families (the Ursidae and Canidae), they're not directly linked.

Brown bears can climb trees but as the brown bear gets older and bigger the climbing of trees becomes more difficult.

When brown bears are cubs they can more easily climb trees.

Most grizzlies can climb a tree if it has ladder-like branches, although their weight and claw structure prevents them from climbing as efficiently as black bears.

Grizzly bears are found in places which include Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and possibly southern Colorado, as well as in western Canada.

Grizzly bears now inhabit about half of their historical range.

The grizzly bear was once seen to populate the entire western coast of North America, from Alaska to Mexico.

However, today the grizzly bear is found predominately in Alaska and western Canada.

Bears are normally diurnal meaning they are most active in the daytime from dawn to dusk although some bears have become nocturnal and become active at night to avoid people.

A Bruin Bear is a bear that is a brown bear that is found in children's books as a fictional bear.

Although Bruin Bear can also refer to brown bears in real life as well.

From Dutch bruin (“brown”) via William Caxton's 1485 translation of a Dutch version of the legend of Reynard the Fox.

Bruin is the bear, named for his brown color.

The brown bear is a large bear species found across Eurasia and North America.

In North America, the populations of brown bears are called grizzly bears, while the subspecies that inhabits the Kodiak Islands of Alaska is known as the Kodiak bear

In the Roman de Renart, Bruin is a bear who is wedged into a honey-filled log by the hero, Reynard the Fox.

The name of the character, ultimately from Middle Dutch bruun (“brown”), has come to be an appellation for any bear.

Bruin is also a baby bear.

Steve Perrault, director of defining, Merriam-Webster Inc.: Bruin is the name of the bear in the medieval epic poem Reynard the Fox.
