If a hawk is killing your chickens you do have a legal right to kill that hawk.

It's only illegal to kill hawks for pleasure or for no good reason.

However killing a hawk that is killing your chickens is a good reason and you won't get into trouble for killing the hawk or shooting the hawk when it's harming your chickens.

An owl decoy will keep hawks away since owls and eagles actually hunt hawks and hawks will want to avoid owls and eagles.

So owl and eagle decoys will help keep the hawks away from your other animals and away from your yard.

A Hawk cannot pick up a chicken if the chicken weighs over 3 lbs.

If the chicken weighs 3 lbs or less then the Hawk could pick the chicken up and carry it off.

Hawks can only pick up and carry around 3 lbs in weight.

Hawks cannot pick up anything that is heavier than their own body weight and so if something weighs more than 3 lbs then it's unlikely the hawk will be able to pick it up and carry it away.

The hawk may try to lift it but if it can't it will just sit it down and move on to something else they can pick up and carry off.

A hawk may be able to pick up and carry away a small tiny dog that is 3 lbs or less but any larger dogs or cats the hawk will be unable to pick them up.

Hawks are birds of prey of the family Accipitridae.

Hawks are widely distributed and vary greatly in size.

The subfamily Accipitrinae includes goshawks, sparrowhawks, sharp-shinned hawks and others.

This subfamily are mainly woodland birds with long tails and high visual acuity.

Hawks and their cousins are opportunistic animals, so dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, ferrets, guinea pigs, ducks, rabbits, and chickens are all at stake.

Eagles are much larger than hawks, and have longer wingspans.

Hawks have a similar appearance, but if you look carefully, you will notice that the wings of hawks tend to be more rounded, and they have short, broad, rounded tails and a stocky build.

A hawk is a wonderful symbol of freedom and flight.

The meaning of seeing a hawk symbolizes a creative being.

Encountering a hawk means you should let your creative spirit flow.

It can be through music or poetry or other creative talents.

Hawks are efficient predators.

They catch, kill, and eat a wide variety of other animals in order to survive.

This predation is not mean or cruel.

It has been going on for millions of years and is, in fact, a necessary function which helps to maintain nature's balance.

Hawks most afraid of owls, eagles and even crows.

Snakes and raccoons also pose a problem for any nesting hawks as they like to steal the eggs.
