Downloading and uploading movies is illegal even for personal use in UAE if you use a torrent to download or upload the movies.

However if you happen to download the movies without a torrent then you may not get into trouble as long as you don't sell it.

There are no specific laws in the UAE that address the distribution of content or the authorization/licensing of content distributors.

The E-Media Law does, however, address the issue of what will be “Licensable Electronic Media Activities”.

Downloading movies for personal use in India and in the United States and most other locations is not illegal if it's for viewing at home or by yourself.

As long as you don't sell the movie you downloaded or claim to own it if you upload the movie to places such as YouTube etc.

Even if you illegally download the movie to watch for personal use you're unlikely to get into trouble.

The only way you would really get into trouble from downloading a movie is when you sell copies of the movie without legal right to do so.

If you want to sell movies then you have to get the legal rights to sell the movies.

A lot of people download movies for free for personal use and never get into any trouble for it.

You can also download movies from YouTube, Download Shows from YouTube etc and it's okay as long as you're not trying to illegally sell the movie.
