Some ways to get rid of sebum on your face are to use Salicylic acid-based toners or astringents or benzoyl peroxide creams.

Salicylic acid-based toners or astringents or benzoyl peroxide creams can treat acne and help aid with skin cell turnover.

They can also dry out excess sebum. You can apply these products immediately after cleansing, but just before putting on moisturizer.

Wash regularly.

Washing with warm water and a gentle soap can reduce the amount of oil on the skin.

Use a toner. Astringent toners that contain alcohol tend to dry out the skin.

Pat the face dry.

Use blotting papers and medicated pads.

Use a facial mask.

Apply moisturizers.

Sebum is an oily, waxy substance produced by your body's sebaceous glands.

It coats, moisturizes, and protects your skin.

It's also the main ingredient in what you might think of as your body's natural oils.

The main cause of an overproduction of sebum is hormonal imbalances, including as a result of puberty and pregnancy.

“As well as hormones, heat, exercise and genetics play a part.

A sebum plug can look like a tiny bump under the surface of the skin or it may stick out through the skin like a grain of sand.

When a sebum plug forms, bacteria that normally lives harmlessly on the surface of your skin can start to grow within the follicle.

Usually you can spot a blackhead easy enough, sebum plugs are a little trickier but if you grab a magnifying glass you can see them no problem.

You will notice that although they may look like little black dots from a distance, they are actually more of a white or yellow color.

Refined carbohydrates like sugar, refined flour, white bread, bakery products, desserts are quickly digested and absorbed into the bloodstream, resulting in a spike in insulin levels.

High insulin levels increase the level of androgens, which stimulates excessive sebum production, oily skin and acne.

Sebum's purpose is to lubricate the hair follicle and prevent moisture loss from the scalp.

If your follicles make too much sebum, your hair and skin get greasy.

That can lead to problems like flakiness and acne.

Untreated sebum buildup on the scalp can cause more serious symptoms, including hair loss.
